The Social Media Audit

Perhaps you're brand new to putting your business out there on the Instagram world, or maybe you’ve been around for a bit but really need to press the refresh button on your work.

This is where a social media audit comes into play!

It’s crucial to be conscious and mindful of how you're selling  your work on social media, as well as how you are cultivating community.  Which posts are gaining traction?  Who is your audience?  Checking in on your account is an important task to do monthly to ensure you’re on the right track towards growth!

So, are you ready to jump right in?

Step 1: Write A Bio That Sells!

What is the first thing someone comes across when they find your account? Your bio!  It all begins here, and as we know-first impressions matter.  This isn’t necessarily a place to list all the acronyms you’ve acquired, and all the special trainings you’ve been through.  The average person won’t necessarily know what these mean or even the benefit of them.  Just as our therapeutic process begins slow and gentle, so must your introduction to them!

In being transparent and explaining exactly who you are and how you can help, the average person will be more likely to not only understand, but follow along! The essential elements include:

-A branded picture of yourself, not a logo. You want to build a personal connection with your followers!

-Your name! You can include your practice name as your handle, but it’s so important to have your actual name so people can know how to address you.

-Include what you do. Are you a coach, family therapist, or couples counselor?  Keeping key words in your name field helps increase the chances of you popping into someone’s search!

-What is your call to action?  What are you asking followers to do? Allow it to serve you, your business, your SEO.  But also allow it to serve them!

-Location, location, location! This can go two ways.  As a therapist or practitioner who is bound by state laws, only allowing services to those in your state, it’s so pertinent to keep your location in your bio.  This helps your audience know where you are as well as build up your local following.  However, if you are a coach or practitioner who is not bound by state laws, this can limit your growth.  Perhaps putting a general location, or leaving it absent, is more beneficial to you.  Most importantly, reconnect with your purpose and goals! These will lead you in the right direction.

Step 2: Utilize Your Insights!

First things first, do you have a business account? If not, it’s time to switch over to one.  It’s super simple to do and found right in the settings of your account. Once that is all settled, click on the three lines in the top right corner of your profile page.  Scrolling down the drop down box, click on “Insights.” This is crucial to check-in with often.  Insights will tell you about your growth, or lack of, within the past week and month.  You can see how many accounts you’ve reached, your content interactions, your follower growth, and so much more.  Furthermore, you can check out the insights for each individual post.  By clicking on a post, a bar will pop up simply saying “View Insights.”  Here you can see detailed impressions that resulted from this post.

Honing in on this consistently is crucial to creating content for, engaging with, and growing your community.  Don’t miss this step!

Step 3: Join The Party!

If you’ve been on social media for a minute, you know engagement is crucial to growth.  But, authentic engagement is even more important, and may seem hard to do.  You can have a million followers, and if you’ve paid for them or you aren’t engaging with them-you’re only hurting yourself. But I’m about to let you in on my Party Method!

Look at IG as if you are walking into a party!  Don’t stay small and sit alone on the couch, play big and join the conversation!

-Following 10-20 relevant and active accounts per day. Like their photos, authentically comment on their posts or stories, or send them a genuine message!  Keep it real.

-Follow others who are active at the party, not other couch sitters.  Engage with those who are also engaging!

-Remember, you’re not everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay!  Focus on who is willing to connect, who values similar things, and those who are interested in you!
